What is a Fungal Nail Infection and why should I care if I have one?
A fungal nail infection is when fungi that feed on keratin (a structural protein within your nails) and move in to your nail bed.
The Fungi love a moist environment (think showers, swimming pools) and can be easily spread from one person to another. Remember Mum telling you to wear thongs in the shower when you go camping? Smart lady. Fungal nail infections can cause pain, they can look really yucky, the nail can drop off and they can cause permanent damage.
What can I do?
Firstly calm down. You are lucky enough to be reading this and so you will know where to get help.
There are a few options for treatment.
Prescription medications (very costly, lots of side effects.)
Surgery to remove the nail (most people still want a nail).
Topical medications (slow process, very time consuming, very low success rate, very expensive).
The most recent clinical data shows that Laser treatment is over 80% effective to achieve clearer nails, it is pain free and without side effects. It just so happens that we offer the latest Laser Treatment and we have done so for years. We have seen fantastic results.
What we do know is the longer you leave it the more permanent damage that can be done and the higher the chances are of infecting other people, especially family members.
If you want to get your nails looking clearer for Summer you need to start treatment now.
